Home care is assistance provided in the home by a caregiver or nurse that allows a person to live independently and safely. Some examples of care provided by a certified nursing assistant or home health aide are hands on or standby assistance with the activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, transfers, and toileting; measuring vitals (temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure); and homemaker companion activities such as meal preparation, medication reminding, light housekeeping, driving, general errands, picking up prescriptions, and grocery shopping. Registered nurses and licensed practical nurses can provide medication set-up, medication management, wound care, nursing oversight, injections, blood sugar testing, and other clinical tasks.
