“As long as Autumn lasts, I shall not have hands, canvas and colors enough to paint the beautiful things I see.”
– Vincent Van Gogh
Florida is known for its clear skies, beautiful beaches, and the balmy feeling of summer all year long. While this is appealing to most, some may long for the crunch of leaves underneath their shoes and curling up next to the fire during the colder days. Here are some ways that you can enjoy living in the Sunshine State, while also participating in the fall experience.
1.) Bake Cookies
Nothing can get you in the holiday spirit like a fresh, warm batch of cookies. They are easy to make, and the flavors can be customized to any approaching holiday. We recommend adding some pumpkin pie spice to your cookie dough to add some fall flavor.
2.) Light Candles
To substitute the glow of a fireplace, light some candles in a safe area in your home. You can use either battery-powered or real candles, and it will simulate the same cozy, fall-like ambiance. Additionally, you can buy your candle in a pumpkin or cinnamon apple scent that will have you reminiscing about traversing a pumpkin patch or going apple picking.
3.) Carve A Pumpkin
Going to a local pumpkin patch and picking out a pumpkin is ideal but buying a pumpkin from Walmart or Publix is always acceptable. Also sold at these grocery chains are safe to use tools and patterns to transform your pumpkin into a scary jack-o-lantern! However, if you are still uncomfortable using these tools, you can buy a permanent marker and draw on your pumpkin, achieving the same effect without having to use any cutting or scooping tools.
4.) Decorate
Decorating your home can seem labor intensive, but it doesn’t have to be. It can be as simple as purchasing some fall foliage, arranging them in a stylish vase and placing it in your home. You can also show off your freshly carved jack-o-lantern by placing it on your stoop for future trick or treaters to see.
5.) Wear A Sweater
It may be 90 degrees outside, but that shouldn’t stop you from lowering your thermostat and showing off your fall fashion. Bring out your flannel, swing on a scarf and strut your stuff. It may even be fun to make a fashion show out of it! You may find that you can no longer participate in the activities that you were once able to do due to age or injury. Here are some ways we can help you:
